‘Heartwood’ wall or standing sculpture

True American Redwood rare heartwood. One of the ethos is to look at wood that has been already harvested and either wasted as firewood or during remodels removing and reusing with a new purpose.

Heartwood especially redwood of this age was often used in the interiors of 1960’s mid century luxury homes. 

Architects often designed build in furniture like shelving or custom beds and bedroom furnishings. 

This piece of heartwood was salvaged from a home on Catalpa Street in Reno, Nevada built in 1964. The close grain can be seen on the side of the sculpture as well as the original rough sawn back of the piece.
